Similarity score vs. plagiarism: A similarity report shows how much of your text matches existing sources — it is not, by itself, a plagiarism verdict. Properly quoted material, correctly cited common phrases, reference lists, and even your own previously published work can all trigger high similarity scores without any actual misconduct. Plagiarism is a judgment about intent and attribution, made by a human reviewer looking at why the matched text appears — not a number generated by software.
